Venom had 1 team in action this past weekend. The 6th grade girls competed at the Pentagon in the Backboard Bash. Saturday the girls played hard but came up short in both games, dropping to 0-2 for the day. The first game was a loss to Brandon Valley, the girls just couldn’t find a rhythm, but it was their first game in about a month and nerves may played a factor. The second game saw the girls dominate most of the game, they played hard enough to win the game and was by far the better team, but as it goes sometimes, the better team didn’t get the win. What a difference a day makes!!!! Sunday came around and the girls were ready! Going undefeated on the day and bouncing back for a 3rd place finish for the tournament. The first game of the day, the girls played more relaxed and most importantly with confidence! They looked to attack and score buckets beating the Doninators 26-19. The second game of the day was the best game of the season thus far for this awesome group of young ladies. Venom jumped out to a 18-9 lead at the break over the Pentagon. The second half picked up in intensity and the girls were in a battle as the Pentagon came out with a surge. Back and forth, both teams applied the pressure and things were electric! The fans, coaches and refs were going crazy! It was such a great atmosphere! And in the end the girls held their composure and got the 23-21 win to finish the day 2-0! Great job to Coach Fechner and the 6th Grade Venom girls! You showed tremendous heart all weekend! So proud of you!
